Scafati. "In light of the crisis that has arisen within my majority, the lack of a common vision and shared goals, I have tendered my resignation as mayor of this city. All the councilors who make up the council also resign."
The mayor of Scafati and regional representative of Forza Italia, Pasquale Aliberti, announced the news in a statement. In recent days, five majority city councilors held a press conference, effectively opening the crisis at Palazzo Mayer, 17 months after the local elections that (re)assigned the tricolor sash to Aliberti.
The resignation, among other things, comes just a few weeks after the full acquittal obtained by Aliberti himself, accused of political-mafia electoral exchange.
The mayor of Scafati has made an appeal to other political forces: "Today, on the eve of yet another City Council meeting, called to deliberate on important issues for the community, I feel the need to take a step back and resign as mayor to verify whether there is still room for establishing a relationship of institutional dialogue within the city council, with all the civic forces that, beyond party and ideological affiliations, have the future of this community at heart".
