Cesa.
They returned home as if nothing had happened, after leaving their two young children with their grandparents for four days. When the police arrived to check on their conditions, they calmly replied: “We were away for a short trip and now we are tired.”Mary Zachariah e Peter Montanino, the couple from Frattamaggiore but resident in Cesa who got married only a week ago, Friday 25 October, risks being reported to social services for abandoning their minor children.
They disappeared into thin air on Tuesday, October 29, and reappeared this morning in Frattamaggiore, at their paternal grandparents' house, right where they had left their seven-month-old and seven-year-old children before walking away, it seems, to look for a new home. Perhaps a short honeymoon, or something more serious: Maria and Pietro will still have to give explanations.
Although it is unlikely that they will be charged with child abandonment, the District Attorney's Office Napoli Nord is still evaluating the situation. In the meantime, the mayor of Cesa, Enzo Guida, has activated social services to verify any responsibilities of the couple in the custody of the children.
This morning, Mary and Peter they reappeared at his parents' house, took the newborn baby and drove back to Cesa; here they were joined by their eldest son, who in the meantime was at his father's house (born from a previous marriage of Maria's).
At that point, the Carabinieri of the local station of Aversa, informed of their return, went to the couple's home, to whom they limited themselves to telling about the trip. In the afternoon, Maria and Pietro then showed up at the Carabinieri station of Frattamaggiore to provide further explanations, as their disappearance had triggered the search.
According to initial reconstructions, after leaving their children with their paternal grandparents, the two walked away to probably reach the Naples train station, from where they took a train to a destination that is currently unknown, not yet revealed by the Prosecutor's Office and the Carabinieri.
It also appears that the couple's last contact dates back to Tuesday afternoon, around 17pm, when Maria used her husband's cell phone to call her sister-in-law (Pietro's sister) and remind her to pick up her seven-year-old son from soccer practice, although her sister-in-law later denied having received that call.
Initial investigations have shown no signs of economic problems, threats or other difficulties; only the couple knows the real reasons for their separation. The disappearance of Pietro and Maria has nevertheless generated great concern among the Caserta and Naples areas.
The mayors of Cesa, Enzo Guida, and of Frattamaggiore, Antonio Del Prete, had launched an appeal to track down the couple, while the parish priest of the Parco Verde of Caivano, Don Maurizio Patriciello, had also expressed concern for the two newlyweds.
