Yet another episode of violence against railway personnel. Yesterday afternoon, at the Caserta station, a Trenitalia train conductor was the victim of an assault while he was on duty on regional train 5189, coming from Isernia and headed to Naples. According to what was reported by the representatives of Filt Cgil, Angelo Lustro, general secretary of Filt Cgil Campania, and Tommaso Pascarella of Filt Cgil di Caserta, the episode occurred around 15:20 pm. The railway worker, belonging to the Campobasso plant, was hit with a headbutt in the face, suffering injuries to the nose that required immediate intervention by emergency services.

Trade unionists have expressed grave concern over the escalation of violence against railway staff. “This is a serious event that comes within an already critical context,” Lustro declared. “In recent years, we have witnessed a worrying increase in attacks against Trenitalia workers.”

Pascarella also underlined the urgency of concrete measures to guarantee the safety of operators: "The situation is dramatic and no longer tolerable. We ask for immediate interventions, including a strengthening of controls and greater synergy between the police and Trenitalia."

The union representatives reiterated that it is essential to protect those who work daily to guarantee an essential service to citizens. “It is unacceptable that workers risk their safety while carrying out their duties,” Lustro and Pascarella concluded, hoping for a rapid intervention by the institutions to stem this worrying trend.

  1. It is really sad that these things continue to happen. Violence against railway workers is not something to be underestimated, it must be stopped immediately. We need more safety and protection for those who work on trains, let's hope for changes.
