PONTICELLI – A strong signal against racketeering and usury: tomorrow, Tuesday 18 February, at 11 am, the “anti-racketeering walk” organised by the Federation of Italian Anti-racketeering and Anti-usury Associations (FAI) will start from via Madonnelle in Ponticelli.
The initiative, promoted by the FAI Campania coordination, includes a meeting with the neighborhood's merchants to raise their awareness of reporting and strengthen support for businesses that oppose the phenomenon of extortion. During the event, nine plaques will be installed in as many commercial establishments, symbolizing membership in the anti-racket network.
Representatives of the police force and important institutions will participate in the walk, including the extraordinary government commissioner for the fight against racketeering and usury, prefect Mariagrazia Nicolò, the anti-racketeering and anti-usury commissioner of Campania, Santi Giuffrè, the councilors for Legality of the Campania region and the Municipality of Naples, Mario Morcone and Antonio De Iesu, as well as the President of the Municipality, Sandro Fucito. The event is part of the project “Together against racketeering and usury”, financed by the Campania Region, with the aim of strengthening support for victims and promoting a culture of legality in the areas most exposed to organized crime.

The initiative seems very important and useful for the neighborhood, but I wonder if the merchants really participate or are just there for the photos. Let's hope it brings concrete results against racketeering.
It is essential that there is real support from the institutions, otherwise the walk risks being just a media event without real consequences for those who suffer extortion.
