Surprise visit to Naples by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Paiantedosi, who met the mayors of the Campi Flegrei at the Rossini School in Bagnoli. The meeting was attended, among others, by the prefect Michele di Bari, the police commissioner Maurizio Agricola and the mayors of Naples, Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Quarto and Monte di Procida.
After having taken stock of the situation regarding the controls following the recent tremors for bradyseism, the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, asked the minister to strengthen the operations of the fire brigade, also urging the reopening of the Fuorigrotta barracks and to strengthen the 24-hour activities of the municipal police for the municipalities of Naples and the Phlegraean area with a specific provision.
"All civil protection matters are made up of planning that includes the broadest possible scenarios. I believe that my colleague Musumeci, whose words I must not be the authentic interpreter of, was asked to make reference to hypotheses that, thank God, are on paper, but that at the moment do not seem to me to be made up of a concrete and immediate perspective. On this I would feel like reassuring". Thus the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi at the end of the meeting held in Naples on the risk of bradyseism.
“The example – continued the minister, indicating the nearby Madonna Assunta Institute – is this school. I was able to see in real time that it has been restructured from the wounds it had suffered, and will resume teaching activities on Monday.
So this school, this place where we gathered, is a tangible example of the approach we need to have, that is, attention, vigilance, being ready for any eventuality, but maintaining the necessary tranquility to continue with our daily lives without particular worries."

The minister's visit to Naples was important, but I don't know if it's enough. Mayors must work harder for safety, especially after the tremors. Let's hope that promises are kept and that the police are strengthened.
