Berlin, 20 April 2025 – During the conference Bosch Connected World Berlin, the founder of Tesla, SpaceX and Neuralink warned of energy instability ahead, caused by an explosion in electricity demand. But what is really going on, and how can we prepare for a future that seems increasingly uncertain?

A consumer boom that the world cannot sustain
Musk, known for his far-sighted predictions, this time pointed to three main factors: the rapid advance of artificial intelligence (AI), the exponential growth of electric vehicles, and the mining of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. AI, with its energy-hungry data centers, is consuming electricity at an unprecedented rate. Electric vehicles, the symbol of the green revolution, are increasing the pressure on global power grids. And Bitcoin mining? It absorbs more energy than entire countries, putting into crisis infrastructures not designed for such loads. According to Musk, this explosive combination is pushing the world towards an energy abyss, with risks that touch every aspect of daily life: from industry to health, to essential services.
Musk’s Solution: Build Infrastructure Now!
It doesn't just sound the alarm: Elon Musk also offers solutions. The priority? Strengthening electrical infrastructure, starting with the production and distribution of transformers, which are essential to managing the growing demand for energy. The time to act is now,” he said, stressing that delaying would mean facing a devastating crisis. But will governments and companies be able to move fast enough to avoid the worst? History teaches us that we often act only when a disaster is already underway.
A crisis foretold: are we really ready?
Musk's words are not new: for years he has been warning about the risks of technological progress not supported by an adequate energy infrastructure. Yet, the world still seems unprepared. The electrical networks, already under pressure, could give way, leading to Blackout, rising prices and widespread disruption. Musk’s prediction is not just a warning, but a call to action. Can we avoid collapse, or are we doomed to pay the price for our dependence on technology?

Reading the article it seems to me that the issue of energy and infrastructure is very complex, but I'm not sure Musk has all the answers. Should we really worry about these things or is there hope for the future?
