Rome – Phishing and smishing on the rise, with fraudulent messages using the name of the INPS to steal personal and financial data. The National Institute of Social Security launches an official alert to warn citizens about digital scams circulating via SMS and email.
How do scammers operate?
The deceptive messages, apparently sent by INPS, invite you to click on fake links with excuses such as:
“Verify your data to continue receiving benefits”
“You are entitled to a refund, click here”
“Confirm your credentials to avoid suspensions”
Warning: This is a trap. If you enter your data on these sites, criminals may:
Apply for loans in your name
Opening Fraudulent Bank Accounts
Diverting pension and bonus payments
Activating SPID credentials without your consent
Access public services by impersonating yourself
How to recognize scams?
INPS reminds that:
NEVER send emails or SMS with links to confirm data or refunds
The only emails with links are those for satisfaction surveys, but never with requests for bank details
The only official website is www.inps.it – always check that the URL ends with “.inps.it” (beware of fake domains such as insp.it, ipns.it, inpis.it)
What to do if you receive a suspicious message?
Do not click on the link
Report the scam to INPS immediately via official channels
Consult the anti-fraud vademecum on the institutional website for examples and advice
“Be wary of any anomalous request,” warns the Institute. Prevention is the best weapon to avoid falling into the net of cybercriminals.
