Naples – A C-130J from the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa today performed an emergency medical transport for two 8-month-old twins, suffering from a serious illness.
The little ones, who left the “Luigi Vanvitelli” hospital in Naples, were transferred to the “Vittore Buzzi” pediatric hospital in Milan for specialized care.
The request came from the Prefecture of Naples, activating the emergency mechanism of the Air Force:
7:30: take off from Pisa to Naples Capodichino
On board: an equipped ambulance, the Vanvitelli medical team and the children's mother
Landing at Milan Linate and immediate transfer to the hospital
13:00: conclusion of the mission and return to Pisa
A plane transformed into an intensive care unit
The C-130J, a tactical aircraft normally used for military operations, was set up in just a few hours to ensure maximum safety and assistance during the flight.
"These interventions are part of our institutional duties," the Air Force explains. "We are ready 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, to save lives in danger."
Today's is only the latest in a long series of humanitarian missions conducted by the Armed Forces, which includes:
Emergency transport for critically ill patients
Delivery of organs for transplants
Disaster Relief
The twins are now in the hands of Milanese specialists, while the Air Force returns to service, ready to respond to the next call.
