Naples – A shocking video is making the rounds on the web showing a dangerous overtaking at sea: a motorboat launched at high speed cuts off the route of the Caremar Driade ferry in the Procida canal.
The images, taken by someone on board the private vessel and shared as a “trophy”, sparked indignation and prompted numerous citizens to report the episode to MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli (Green-Side Alliance).
“We are faced with yet another act of madness at sea, and the summer season hasn’t even started,” thunders Borrelli. “I ask that the perpetrator of this wicked act be traced immediately and that he be sanctioned as he deserves. Last year we witnessed too many accidents, often caused by people without a license or under the influence of alcohol. And then there are the social trends: minors, even children, driving boats just to make viral videos. The Gulf of Naples in the summer is busier than the Tangenziale, with dozens of rental boats that anyone can drive without any control. We urgently need a plan for safety at sea before a tragedy happens. The message must be clear: the sea is not an amusement park.”
The context: a sea without rules?
The episode turns the spotlight back on the nautical chaos that every summer transforms the Gulf into a risk zone. Rentals without controls: too many boats rented to anyone, even without a license.

Lack of vigilance: few resources from the Coast Guard to deal with the emergency.
Borrelli announced that he will take the issue to Parliament, asking for stricter controls and exemplary sanctions for those who jeopardize safety at sea. In the meantime, the Port Authority is already working to identify the motorboat and its driver, also thanks to the video material released online.
