Avellino – Moments of panic late yesterday evening in Sant'Andrea di Conza, a small town in Alta Irpinia, where a young man armed with a katana spread terror among the residents.
The protagonist of the episode was a 25-year-old, already known to the police, who first attempted to rob a man while he was withdrawing money from an ATM, then chased him through the streets of the town, brandishing a Japanese sword about 50 centimeters long and attempting to hit him.
Once the alarm was raised, the Carabinieri of the Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi company immediately launched a manhunt, combing alleys and abandoned buildings. The fugitive was located shortly after in the town center, also thanks to the collaboration of the citizens.
At the sight of the soldiers, he put up a violent resistance: he tried to hit them with the katana and kicked, punched and even bit them, some of which hit home.
Once disarmed and immobilized, he was taken to the barracks for the routine checks and then transferred to the Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi prison, where he awaits the summary trial by order of the judicial authorities.
The support of the local community proved to be crucial to the arrest, and at the end of the hectic phases of the intervention, they expressed gratitude to the carabinieri with a long round of applause.
