Air Campania, the local public transport company entirely controlled by the Region, continues with its ambitious relaunch plan.
With the addition of 156 new hires, the company's workforce has almost quadrupled in four years, going from 380 to approximately 1.300 workers (1.292). A significant increase that is accompanied by a doubled fleet of vehicles and an extension of the kilometers traveled.
The Sole Director of Air Campania, Anthony Acconcia, highlighted the progress made since 2021, when he managed the pre-existing Air Spa. “In the last two years, thanks to the incentives made available by the Region, over 300 employees have joined early retirement, allowing us to hire young people,” explained Acconcia.
The ranking of the competition from which the 156 new hires were drawn (132 drivers and 24 administrative staff) will continue to scroll, with hundreds of participants still eligible, announcing further additions.
Currently, Air Campania covers almost 30 million kilometers between the five provinces of Caserta, Naples, Avellino, Benevento and Salerno. But the ambitions do not stop there: "From the beginning of 2026 we will begin to provide local public transport service in the urban center of Benevento, thus increasing the kilometers traveled from 30 to 36 million," Acconcia announced.
The fleet has also seen significant growth, going from 400 to 806 buses, all new and oriented towards sustainability. The fleet includes methane-powered and electric vehicles, 13 of which are already in service in Avellino. In the coming months, another 36 electric buses will arrive and will be used in Caserta and Benevento, confirming Air Campania's commitment to greener mobility.
To support operations, the company has 23 depots in various provinces, equipped with workshops and storage areas.
Today was dedicated to new hires in the company. Among the 24 administrators, graduates in law, economics and engineering stand out. Among the six women hired, Silvia, 36 years old from Castelvenere sul Calore (Avellino), has realized a dream by becoming a driver: "I realized the dream of my father, who was a bus driver, continuing the family tradition", she declared beaming.
Pride also for the youngest, Carmine, 23 years old from Avellino, who said he was “proud” to have won the competition and “to have a job at this age”. Already a driver before being hired by Air Campania, he can now look to the future with stability and positivity.
The expansion of Air Campania is not just a numerical fact, but a concrete sign of development and opportunity for the Campania region in the public transport sector.
