Nola – An episode of extreme violence marked the demolition operations of an illegal building in Nola. The Police State police arrested a 53-year-old Neapolitan man for assault, threats and resisting a public official, after the man attempted to set fire to an officer by throwing a can of gasoline at him.
Yesterday morning, a team composed of officers from the Nola Police Station, the Municipal Police and municipal technicians were engaged in the clearing and demolition operations of an abandoned building, already occupied illegally.
At one point, the 53-year-old – a former illegal occupant of one of the apartments – appeared on site with vehement protests, trying to block the work.
Despite the officers' attempts to calm the situation, the man managed to enter the building. He grabbed a can of gasoline and threw it at a police officer, threatening to light the liquid with a lighter.
After the act, the 53-year-old attempted to escape through a window, but was immediately stopped by officers and arrested.
The man will have to answer for personal injury, aggravated threats, resisting a public official and attempted arson. The man was taken to the Poggioreale prison awaiting the summary trial.
