PPositano - A violent fire broke out this afternoon in Positano, in the province of Salerno, threatening the luxury hotel Il San Pietro, one of the most exclusive accommodations on the Amalfi Coast.
The flames, fueled by the wind and high temperatures, spread rapidly from the vegetation and undergrowth covering the hill above the hotel.
For safety reasons, the hotel was evacuated. Firefighting operations are still ongoing, and several firefighting teams from Naples and Salerno are on site.
The episode rekindles the alarm fire In Campania, where the combination of extreme heat, wind, and neglect continues to fuel the spread of wildfires. In recent weeks alone, numerous fires have struck the Salerno hinterland and the coastal hillsides, putting homes, tourist facilities, and entire ecosystems at risk.
The affected area is particularly sensitive today, both due to its morphological conformation, which makes intervention operations complex, and due to the heavy tourist influx in recent weeks. No injuries have been reported so far, but the situation remains critical and is being constantly monitored by law enforcement.
The fire in Positano confirms the fragility of the Campania region in the face of fire emergencies, a phenomenon that recurs with worrying regularity every summer, endangering people, property, and the environment.
