Calitri, 28-year-old woman hammered by her ex
A terrifying afternoon yesterday in Calitri. Around 2:00 PM, a 28-year-old Tunisian woman was struck with a blunt object, preliminary findings suggest, a hammer, near her home. Transported by air ambulance to Potenza Hospital, she is hospitalized with a guarded prognosis but her life is not in danger.
The 28-year-old had been living in Calitri for several months, working at a local bar and, after their relationship ended, living alone. Neighbors raised the alarm, drawn by her screams. Several people provided first aid while 118 and the Carabinieri arrived.
Paramedics stabilized her and, given the severity of her injuries, ordered her airlift. According to initial investigations, the attacker was a fellow Italian, identified as the young woman's former partner, with whom she had lived until recently. The man fled but was quickly intercepted and apprehended.
Her situation is being examined by investigators. It remains to be seen whether the violence stemmed from the end of the relationship: this is currently the hypothesis being investigated, pending confirmation. The investigation is being conducted by the Carabinieri of the Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi Company and the Investigative Unit of the Avellino Provincial Command, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office.
Investigators are reconstructing the incident, gathering testimonies and verifying whether there were any arguments, threats, or other attacks in the hours and days leading up to it. The news has shocked the town. Those who knew her describe her as a young woman who had integrated into the community in just a few months.
