He had escaped house arrest to join his ex-partner, who had fled to Capri in an attempt to get away from him. But his journey to the island ended with another arrest. The perpetrator of the incident is a 31-year-old man originally from Mugnano di Napoli and resident in Polcenigo, in the province of Pordenone. He had already been jailed last May for a violent attack on the same woman, a 30-year-old resident of Ercolano.

The man, placed under house arrest for those very facts, is now charged with escape and stalking aggravated by his previous romantic relationship with the victim.

The dawn journey to Capri

According to investigators' reconstruction, the 31-year-old left his home in the early hours of the morning, violating the precautionary measure, to board a boat for Capri.

By 5:30 a.m., he was already on the island. Shortly thereafter, he reached the woman's home in the Marina Grande area and began banging violently on the door.

A scene that immediately brought back memories of the attack that had occurred about a month earlier, when the same man had kicked out the glass of the front door before entering the home.

Messages sent with fake profiles

In the complaint filed with the Carabinieri, the woman said she received numerous calls from an unknown Instagram account shortly before her ex-partner's arrival.

The man allegedly created a new account to bypass the block imposed by the victim. Shortly before knocking on the door, he also sent her a photo of the entrance to the house, proving he was already there.

At first, the 30-year-old remained silent, hoping the 31-year-old would leave on his own. Then, fearing a new attack, she called the commander of the Capri Carabinieri station, asking for help.

The threats: "Montecristo took ten years"

According to the investigation, the episode represents only the latest chapter in a persecution that had been going on for weeks.

The 31-year-old allegedly bombarded his ex-partner, as well as her mother and sister, with messages sent via fake profiles on WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, and email.

Requests to get back together were interspersed with increasingly serious threats.

Among those reported in the investigation documents is the message sent on June 15: “When you return to Naples, get back on the dinghy because sooner or later I'll catch you and make you pay for everything I'm putting myself through.”

The next day he would add a reference to Alexandre Dumas's famous novel: "It's a small world, don't worry. Monte Cristo took ten years to get his revenge."

In another email, dated June 12, he claimed to have recovered some private videos of the couple, proposing an exchange for some personal effects.

The commander, who is off duty, tracks him down at the port

Upon receiving the call for help, the commander of the Capri Carabinieri Station, despite being off duty, immediately left his home and personally set out to track down the 31-year-old.

Riding his scooter, he managed to locate him inside a bar in the port area, where in the meantime the man had moved after leaving the victim's home.

The soldier coolly managed to hold him back under a pretext until support patrols arrived, preventing any possible escape or further escalation.

The 31-year-old was then arrested, escorted to the barracks and subsequently transferred to prison at the disposal of the judicial authorities.

The story: from the May attack to the new arrest

The new episode is part of a story already marked by serious episodes of violence.

Last May, the 31-year-old was arrested after a brutal attack on his ex-partner. According to the prosecution, he surprised her in her home, struck her, causing multiple bruises that required a seven-day sentence, and also attempted to suffocate her. At that time, the man hid in a closet while waiting for her return.

The Carabinieri's intervention led to the arrest and the activation of the Red Code procedure, with the victim placed in the risk assessment process. Even after the new incident, the woman refused transfer to a protected facility.
