Procida – A loud bang, followed by an explosion, and fear erupted in the sea. A 60-year-old diver, resident in the province of Naples, was injured in an accident today in the waters off Procida. The man was aboard a dinghy when, according to initial reports, a scuba tank suddenly exploded.

The accident occurred off Punta Pizzaco, where the vessel was sailing. The explosion reportedly caused a violent blast, throwing the 60-year-old man into the sea. He was then recovered and brought back aboard the dinghy, which headed for Marina Grande, where rescue services had already been alerted.

Facial injuries and abdominal trauma

Upon arrival at the port, the diver was taken care of by 118 paramedics. He remained conscious throughout, but had facial injuries and, according to initial investigations, also suffered severe abdominal trauma.

Initially taken to Procida Hospital, the 60-year-old underwent medical tests and examinations to assess the extent of the injuries caused by the explosion and subsequent fall into the water.

The helicopter transfer to Naples

Given his condition and the need for further diagnostic testing and specialized care, medical staff ordered the patient's helicopter transfer to Naples, in critical condition. According to available information, the man's life is not in danger.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Investigations are underway to reconstruct the detailed dynamics of the explosion and, above all, to determine why the diving tank failed, causing the explosion.
