Naples, the Greens deliver a thousand masks to the prison officers of Poggioreale
“We delivered a thousand protective masks, donated by an entrepreneur, to the prison police of the Poggioreale prison to show our solidarity and support for these women and men who carry out a complicated, hard and fundamental job, without which the situation in prisons would degenerate”. This is what the Campania regional councilor of Europa Verde, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, said. “They do it by running very serious risks for their health – Borrelli insists -, as shown by the latest data from the daily report of the Dap Inspection Office. In the Campania prison facilities, there are currently 2 victims and 72 infected people among the staff. Zero victims and 17 infected people among the inmates. It is therefore clear who is at greater risk in these facilities”.
“In particular,” Borrelli continues, “in the Poggioreale penitentiary, outside of which there have been several demonstrations by political parties and associations of family members of prisoners, where as of January 7, no infected prisoners have been found. We need to build new prisons, more modern and equipped to protect the health of those who work there and, at the same time, seriously begin to launch re-education programs for prisoners by introducing them to the world of work,” Borrelli concludes. “As a union,” Ciro Auricchio, regional secretary of the Uspp (union of penitentiary police unions), declared, “we represented to the Minister of Justice, during his last visit to Poggioreale, the fact that penitentiary police personnel must necessarily be included among the priorities for vaccines, just like RSA personnel. The numbers speak for themselves. We are the most exposed within prison facilities. An emergency that must be resolved as soon as possible.”
