The Carabinieri of the Operational Nucleus of the Naples Vomero Company arrested Giulio Engheben and Salvatore Vitale, a 24-year-old and 23-year-old from Scampia already known to the police, for evasion and resisting a public official.
The Carabinieri of Vomero were looking for 2 robbers riding a scooter that had been robbed on March 15th at gunpoint to a foreign citizen. The military knew that the characters on that scooter had been riding the streets of the Vomero neighborhood for days. Yesterday afternoon - around 17 pm - the Carabinieri intercepted the scooter they were looking for in via Leonardo Bianchi, with the 2 young suspects on board near the Monaldi hospital. They ordered them to stop, and a chase ensued.
BUSY CHASE
The Operations Center of the Provincial Command he spread the search by having the weapon's Gazelles converge on every possible escape route. The chase ended when the 2 lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a citizen's car between via Giotto and via Ruoppolo. The criminals did not give up and attempted to flee on foot. Vitale - the passenger - was immediately stopped by the Carabiniere, recovering and seizing a balaclava, gloves and a blank gun without the red cap that the 24-year-old had thrown into the Ruoppolo gardens in an attempt to get rid of it. Engheben continued to flee on foot followed by another Carabiniere. He headed to a nearby building, entered a house on the sixth floor and threatened the owner of the house with a telescopic truncheon in a vain attempt to find a hiding place for the night. The Carabiniere saw him enter that building and, noticing a State Police patrol nearby, asked his colleagues for support. Together, they entered the building, went up to the sixth floor and entered the apartment.
