Napoli. “Not even the possibility of ending up in the national prisons, as provided for by DL 172/2008 converted into law 210 of 2008, containing extraordinary measures to deal with the emergency in the waste disposal sector in the region Campania as well as urgent environmental protection measures, legislation which, in Campania, in the sanctions discipline, introduced the prison sentence in the case of abandonment of bulky waste on the street, has constituted a deterrent in the Neapolitan capital to prevent the continuation of abandonment of mattresses and various household items on sidewalks and roadways, although a specific service of Asìa has been operating for some time for the home collection of the same, even if, more recently, televisions and monitors have been excluded from this service which must be taken directly to the collection centers ".
This is the bitter observation of Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori collinari, former president of the Vomero district, who has long been committed to the correct disposal of solid urban waste.
“From the umpteenth inspection carried out on the streets of the Vomero neighborhood, one of the so-called “good” neighborhoods of the City – Capodanno points out -, truly unacceptable situations have emerged, even today, which have raised critical observations not only from residents but also from the many tourists who have returned to the hill.
The most striking case, but it is one of the many that could be observed, was found in the pedestrian area of via Luca Giordano, at number 111, where a sofa was abandoned on the roadway, which, despite the reports made by residents and shopkeepers, has not yet been collected by Asìa.
“These are unacceptable situations,” Capodanno emphasizes, “in a neighborhood that, in addition to being densely populated, attracts thousands of people who come to do their shopping, given that it is the city’s first shopping center, with over 1.600 fixed-location stores, but also many tourists attracted by the scenic and cultural beauties present on the hill.
We must immediately encourage vigilance, also by strengthening the so-called "ecological police", imposing the appropriate sanctions on offenders who can also be identified through the images of the video surveillance system present with numerous cameras".
"Just as - adds Capodanno - it is necessary to promote a widespread campaign, also through schools, to illustrate not only the methods for the disposal and collection of solid urban waste, including harmful and bulky waste, through separate waste collection, but also the sanctions envisaged for those who do not comply, particularly severe sanctions for those who abandon bulky waste on the street."
