SuperEnalotto, the jackpot soars to 203 million. From the record win in Italy to the first fan club: the competition that has made Italians dream for a quarter of a century
Article Key Points
Tomorrow night the SuperEnalotto jackpot will offer fans 202,9 million euros, the highest jackpot in the world.
The prize is one step away from the record figure of 209 million achieved in 2019 with a bet of just 2 euros. This is what the specialized press agency reports 'Agimeg'.
And to try your luck, all you have to do is hit a six, those 6 numbers that can change your life.
The most played numbers in Superenalotto
There are people who field the numbers that have marked important dates for their lives, others who rely on fate or on the solicitation of numbers that one stumbles upon by chance.
It seems incredible but the most played six numbers are 1-2-3-4-5-6.
And it can be a sign that the lowest numbers, those between 1 and 12, do not come out in the winning combination of 7 extractions?
Luck is blind
The incredible story of the Bulgarian Lottery proves that Lady Luck is unpredictable. On September 6 and 10, 2009, the same set of numbers came out in both consecutive draws: 4-15-23-24-25-35-42.
According to mathematicians, there was a one in 4,2 million chance that such an event would occur.
Passion for consecutive numbers
But thinking that a set of six numbers made up entirely of consecutive numbers can never come out is wrong.
The South African Lottery, in December 2020, awarded 20 players who hit the incredible combination 5-6-7-8-9 Wild Number 10.
A long history 25 years
SuperEnalotto will be celebrating its 3th birthday this year, on December 25, and has marked important chapters in Italian gaming history. The first historic win dates back to January 17, 1998, just a month and a half after its launch. That day, a lucky player from the province of Brescia took home 11,8 billion of the old lire.
On October 31st of last year, there was the most famous “6”: 101 players from Peschici, in the province of Foggia, hit the six numbers thanks to a maxi system. The win was 63 billion lire.
On the top step of the podium of the highest prizes ever, there is the extraordinary “6” worth 209,2 million euros, won on 13 August 2019 in Lodi.
The map of the regions where the jackpot was hit
Of the 124 jackpots awarded in the history of SuperEnalotto, 18 have been won in Campania. On the second step of the podium is Lazio (16 jackpots), followed by Emilia Romagna with 13 jackpots.
However, there are still three regions where Lady Luck has not yet stopped: Valle d'Aosta, Trentino Alto Adige and Molise.
Here is the distribution of the jackpots divided by region: Campania 18, Lazio 16, Emilia Romagna 13, Puglia 10, Tuscany and Veneto 9, Piedmont, Lombardy, Sardinia and Sicily 7, Calabria 6, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Abruzzo 3, Marche and Umbria 2, Liguria and Basilicata 1. 3 jackpots were won thanks to the Bacheca dei Sistemi.
The “SuperEnalotto Fan Club”
The media impact of SuperEnalotto immediately after its debut, which increased contest after contest with jackpots and winnings first in the billions and then in the millions, led to the creation, in 1998, of the first and only “SuperEnalotto Fan Club” in Italy. Never before had a contest had an official fan club.
