Ercolano. “Murderer, murderer”: she lashed out at Vincenzo Palumbo, the man who killed her son.
The mother of Giuseppe Fusella, one of the two young men mistaken for thieves (the other is Tullio Pagliaro) and murdered by gunshots by the 53-year-old truck driver on the night between 28 and 29 October 2021, in Ercolano. The man is accused by the Naples Prosecutor's Office (deputy prosecutors of Naples Luciano D'Angelo and Daniela Varone) of the double voluntary homicide of the two young friends returning from a soccer game.
The President of the First Section of the Assize Court of Napoli, who was listening to the testimony of one of the carabinieri who intervened that night at the scene of the tragedy, was forced to suspend the hearing. The woman was accompanied outside courtroom 115 and calmed down by her family. Palumbo, behind bars, watched the scene impassively.
Giuseppe's mother, in a fit of rage, let herself go when the marshal was showing videos attached to the documents regarding the crime scene. The hearing resumed shortly after and the first testimony of the soldier was followed by five others, from as many colleagues. The Court of Assizes then adjourned the trial to June 22: on that occasion the Carabinieri of the Racis will be heard, charged by the investigators with drawing up an expert report on the incident.
Pagliaro and Fusella were hit and killed by gunshots fired by Palumbo while they were driving past the truck driver's house. Pagliaro's family is defended by the lawyer Maurizio Capozzo while Fusella's relatives are defended by the lawyer Gennaro Bartolino. Palumbo, finally, is defended by the lawyer Giovanni Abet.
The trial is being held with the immediate rite before the first section of the Assize Court of Naples. According to the investigations carried out by the military of Torre del Greco and the RIS of Rome, that tragic night, Palumbo exploded seven gunshots against the Fiat Panda on board which the two young people (who were, respectively, 27 and 26 years old).
Tullio Pagliaro was driving the car while Giuseppe Fusella was sitting on the passenger side: two of those seven nose cones, after having passed through the roof of the car, reached Tullio and Giuseppe killing them instantly. Four others reached the car that was passing in front of Palumbo's house but without hitting the boys.
The double homicide, which is contested with theaggravating circumstance of abject and futile motives, according to what the defendant himself revealed during questioning by investigators, was caused by Palumbo's desire to take revenge for a theft he had previously suffered in his villa.
