Naples, the Ciro Esposito Park in Scampia forgotten: the exterior in danger and left to decay.
On June 25, 2017, the Villa Comunale in Scampia was named after Ciro Esposito, the young Napoli fan killed in the clashes preceding the 2014 Coppa Italia final in Rome.
If the intention was to give lustre to the memory of the young fan, then someone has made a mistake. In fact today the Park has been swallowed up by decadence and degradation. At least as far as the exterior is concerned
“This is what the outside of the Ciro Esposito municipal villa in Scampia looks like. The inside is always very clean and tidy, but the outside looks like this, unsafe. This area shown here is the pedestrian area that runs alongside the villa, as well as a little further ahead. I wonder if someone always has to get hurt before intervening. Not to mention the piles of garbage that run alongside the villa.”– reports a citizen to the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
“We forwarded the report to the municipal offices asking for safety and maintenance interventions before an accident can occur and someone can get hurt” – declares Borrelli –"This is yet another situation that documents the abandonment of public greenery. Things must change and quickly. The city must be administered and cared for, in the true sense of the word, from the center to its borders."
