The work of maintenance of Villa Comunale di Napoli after years of neglect and abandonment, awaiting the overall restyling project. This is what we read in a note from the press office of the municipality.
Numerous activities have already been completed by the municipal administration as per the priority indicated by the mayor Gaetano Manfredi and monitored daily by the Green Councillor Vincent Santagada.
“First of all, the irrigation system was recovered. Then the vandalized rides were restored and are finally available to users again. There will be other interventions soon. – Santagada declared again – aimed at recovering the remaining 20% of the flowerbeds and ensuring better accessibility from the gates of the Villa. Cleanliness and decorum are guaranteed by a daily frequency of the street cleaner, by the technical executors of the green service, by the executors of the multifunctional Hub of Soccavo”.
Among the ongoing activities, the restoration of the first 8 statues that overlook Piazza Vittoria. The association Macs - Patrons of the Arts, cinema and sport chaired by the notary Roberto Dante Cogliandro – has collected the sum of 80 thousand euros to be used through the art-bonus mechanism. The eight sculptures from the neoclassical period, copies of Roman statues depicting mythological subjects on high bases, are almost all works by the Genoese sculptor Tommaso Soleri and come from royal palace di Caserta. Initially placed inside the Villa, were placed here as part of the works to renovate the entrance decided in 1870 by Ferdinando IV di Bourbon about project Carlo Vanvitelli.
As part of the project, the statue of the «Faun playing the fife» currently in storage after being vandalized. The restoration work will last 6 months and will be conducted under the supervision of the Superintendency and the Municipality of Naples.
