Article Key Points
The crimes initially contested were refusal of official duties and failure to fulfill public supply contracts: the investigation began in January 2020 and aimed to shed light on crimes and omissions for eco-bales and separate waste collection. The slowdowns in the management of the integrated waste cycle would therefore not be attributable to administrative and bureaucratic procedures.
The magistrates have ruled out the existence of any crime
The pool of magistrates of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office has excluded the existence of any crime in the conduct of the suspects, stating that the slowdowns in the management of the integrated waste cycle were to be attributed exclusively to the administrative delays and the complex bureaucratic process for the creation of composting plants. The investigators have also underlined the existence of an overall positive and increasing trend with respect to the management of separate waste collection in Campania
“The archiving of the investigating judge, in accordance with the detailed request of the public prosecutors, definitively closes a case that has dragged on for years and where the entire waste management system in Campania was under accusation. An investigation contained in thirteen folders of investigative documents, for tens of thousands of pages, with inevitable and enormous costs in terms of time and energy spent”, explains the professor Andrea R.Castaldo, trusted defender of De Luca and Bonavitacola.
