Amalfi inaugurates the Christmas Village. From the North Pole to the marzipan house overlooking the sea. From 20 to 24 December, included in the larger program "Il Natale dei Piccoli".
From the North Pole to the Amalfi sun. Santa Claus, from his headquarters in Lapland to the cold between ice and snow, moves to his little marzipan house overlooking the sea on the Amalfi Coast, among dancing elves and storytelling gnomes, creative workshops, theatrical shows and many hilarious surprises to make Christmas even more magical for adults and children.
The Christmas Village that will be inaugurated on Tuesday 20 December at 16 pm at Parco Pineta will be a daydream, one of the most anticipated attractions in the events programme planned by the Municipal Administration led by Mayor Daniele Milano.
The Christmas spirit pervades every corner, with squares, alleys, and the seafront that come back to life, with music, street parades of folk groups, bagpipes and ciaramelle as symbols of luck and happiness.
“Santa Claus Village will give happiness and smiles – underlines the Councilor for Childhood, Francesca Gargano – 'Learning by playing': this is the final goal of the program designed for the little ones. Surprise them, read the emotion in their eyes, stimulate their curiosity and imagination through creative workshops. We have registered a record number of reservations for the Christmas letter on Amalfi paper. Hundreds of children have joined the initiative at the Amalfi Paper Museum. It was an exciting experience for us too, seeing each child create their own sheet of fine paper and, subsequently, write their own wish list to send to Santa Claus. An opportunity for aggregation, but also for transmitting ancient knowledge, such as the artisanal processing of our paper mills. The Christmas Village, like all the events scheduled in Amalfi, will also have free admission, because all the little ones must experience joy and happiness: Christmas is everyone's celebration".
“The Christmas Village will be open every day, until the Eve of December 24th with a wonderful show of prose and music designed especially for our children and their families. – explains the Councillor for Events, Enza Cobalto – It will be nice and fun to be able to move among lights and decorations. The terrace overlooking the sea of the port of Amalfi will be above all the location of many themed workshops that will alternate from day to day: the children will prepare the panettone and decorate the biscuits. And then there will be the magician of the cotton candy, the roasted chestnuts and many shows to laugh together and dream with the fairy tale characters. Finally, waiting for them, our wonderful Santa Claus. The events, however, will not end with Christmas, but will continue until the Epiphany. It will be a real family celebration, because we are convinced that it will conquer adults and children alike”.
There are many events on the program waiting for Christmas. Friday 23 December at 11:30, in Località Castello in Pogerola there will be the traveling show “InCantabosco – Le leggende del Natale”: An immersive journey through fairy tales, legends and nature, during which you will experience an engaging adventure: helping the elves of the forest to save the traditions of Christmas, solving riddles, a treasure hunt and many other activities to do in company, including music, games and songs, by the Compagnia Citrea.
December 24th, instead, is Christmas Eve, the most frenetic day of the year! Where have Santa's reindeer gone?! We will find out together with the show "Rudolph the Red Nose", the story of the most famous of the reindeer and his fantastic friends, in the company of the Great Elf and Queen Tormentilla. The play, by the Citrea Company, will be held at 11:00 and 12:30 at the Pineta Park, among the attractions of the Christmas Village.
On Tuesday 27 December at the Church of San Pietro a Tovere, at 11 am, the show for children and young people by the Citrea Company, “Al Castello di Arendelle”, is scheduled, with the protagonists of the famous film Frozen, Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Kristoff, busy decorating their castle for the Christmas holidays, when they realize that something is missing... will they be able to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas together?!
The Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations in Amalfi continue in the spirit of the intersection between tradition and modernity on Friday 30 December at 11:00, in Piazza della Bussola in Amalfi, with the creative workshop for children and young people "The instruments of the Amalfi Folk New Year's Eve". The music and ancient traditions of Amalfi folklore offer us an idea to create a magnificent New Year's Eve workshop, curated by Il Mondo di Naty.
What kind of celebrations would it be, however, if before returning to school the Befana didn't also come to bring her gifts? Or her coal to the one who was the naughtiest? And so there's room for imagination and creativity on Thursday 5 January at 11:00, at the Arsenale della Repubblica di Amalfi, for the creative workshop to make your own handmade stocking, all hand made? It's the symbol of the Epiphany, which every child leaves at the foot of the bed waiting to find it, upon awakening, full of sweets. In Amalfi we'll prepare it all together! Then continue with the show, always in the Arsenale, at 18:00, Amalfi: a real show with "La Bottega della Befana".
