"We are preparing an extraordinary security device to prevent December 24 from becoming a day of chaos rather than celebration."
The mayor of Naples, Gaetano, announced it Manfredi, reporting that the issue is being discussed at the Prefecture in the technical table that also involves the police. Manfredi underlined the need "to balance the legitimate desire of people to be able to live the holidays with serenity, but also to allow business owners to be able to operate.
The city must be alive but orderly. We are making a great effort and I think that with everyone's collaboration we will succeed". With respect to the requests made by the merchants of the Chiaia district who fear the chaos linked to the large flow in the so-called 'baretti'.
Manfredi reported that among the various proposals being worked on at the technical table in the Prefecture there is also the possibility of transferring the 'San Gregorio Armeno model' to Chiaia which – he stated – "is working because even in the large crowd there is more order".
"We need to have balance - concluded Manfredi - food operators want to operate but we also have many other commercial sectors in Chiaia that need to sell and therefore we must work to reconcile everyone's interests by ensuring that this tourist and economic bonus has a widespread impact that allows everyone to operate correctly".
