The Carabinieri of the Salerno company foiled an attempted theft at the “Monte dei Paschi di Siena” in Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Salerno.
The military, around 12, were alerted by the security of the institute, suspicious of the activation of the sensor alarm. The gang of the hole, from what we learn, managed to reach the external perimeter of the vault, exploiting the city sewer system.
It is likely that the criminals had been working on the robbery for a few days: yesterday, in fact, the bank was closed for Epiphany and would have reopened only on Monday. The carabinieri also found and seized two jammers that had been positioned to shield the network and make any type of communication impossible.
The activation of the alarm, however, upset the plans of the thieves who had to escape before they could get their hands on the loot. The timely intervention of the Carabinieri, led by Commander Antonio Corvino, avoided the worst.
The military also acted with the help of the first response units (equipped with helmets and shields), a special unit within the operational and radiomobile unit of the Salerno company.
In these hours the men of the Arma are analyzing the images of the cameras and guarding all the outlets of the sewer system. The certainty is that the action was carried out by a gang of "professionals" on whose trail, now, there are the forces of law and order.
