Salvatore 'Turi' La Motta, 63 years old, is the man who committed suicide in front of the Carabinieri barracks in Riposto, suspected of having killed two women shortly before: Carmelina Marino, 48 years old, and Santa Castorina, 50 years old.
He is the brother of Benedetto La Motta, known as 'Benito' or 'Baffo', 65 years old, arrested by the military in July 2020 as part of an investigation into a murder and indicated as the contact in Riposto of the Santapaola-Ercolano mafia 'family'.
According to the District Attorney's Office Catania, who had coordinated the investigations of the Carabinieri of the Giarre company of the Etna provincial command, was said to have been Benedetto La Motta who “ordered the murder” of Dario Chiappone, killed in Riposto in October 2016".
The investigation by the Catania DDA took further inspiration from the arrest of Antonino Marino, a 78-year-old from Riposto, known as the prison killer, which took place on 20 December 2019 for the same murder after his fingerprints were found by the Messina RIS at the crime scene.
