They too managed to get out by crawling through the space created by a broken glass. “We all found ourselves on top of each other – Nicoletta says – we were saved by a miracle: the trees stopped the bus which otherwise would have ended up rolling on itself for several dozen meters”.

He spoke on the phone with his wife who from Copertino, in the province of Brindisi, anxiously asks for reassurances about their health conditions.
Together with his children he managed to find a way out through a broken window. In the gymnasium of the municipality of Grottaminarda where thirty of the thirty-six passengers of the bus have been transferred since five this morning, some of them with slight bruises, many say that “having seen death with one’s own eyes.”
Carlino, who left from Lecce, is still shaken: “I held on to the seat in front, keeping my legs up. It was my luck: I prevented one of the seats that had come off their hinges after the impact from crushing me.”
