This year the Festival del Giallo Città di Napoli directed by Ciro Sabatino launches a new initiative to encourage students to approach the varied universe of culture.
In this specific case, the study of a historical period (chosen from the Middle Ages to the 1970s) and the exercise of developing the plot of an investigative story.
The National Competition for Historical Mystery Fiction, in its first edition, was conceived and coordinated by journalist Anita Curci (director of the monthly magazine Gialli.it) and is aimed at Italian students in the last two years of public and private high schools of any type, who are asked to combine three fundamental ingredients: learning, creativity, and writing.
To participate in the competition with your own historical mystery story, the registration of a student or group of students must be done through a teacher in charge of the interested school. The application to participate, even without sending the story but only to apply for the initiative, can be sent to the address redazione@gialli.it by inserting in the subject: “National historical mystery story competition – application”, and specifying in the body of the email the name of the candidate(s) and the teacher in charge, name and city of the school. The stories participating in the competition can be sent to the same address from October 2023 until midnight on March 15, 2024. The participating work must be unpublished, never published either in paper or digital format and must be written in novel form and in Italian in a maximum of 15 pages – 2000 characters per page – spaces included, Times New Roman font, 12 point.
The stories of the five finalists will be published by Gialli.it in a volume that can be purchased on Amazon Books and publicized through presentations, reviews, and press releases. The first place winner will receive a cash prize. The award ceremony will take place in May during the third edition of the Festival del Giallo Città di Napoli.
The activities described will be, upon request, recognized by the Gialli.it Association as 40 hours of PCTO, and all participating students will be issued a certificate sent via email to the teacher appointed by the head teacher of each school involved in the project.
Students who wish to attend the awards ceremony may be accompanied by teachers or parents. Those who communicate their presence at the event by email may participate in a Neapolitan tour of the places of mystery and thriller.
