Naples, the stairs of Via Acton have already been defaced and flowerbeds burned in Mergellina. Borrelli (AVS): “too many vandals go unpunished. Civil society must mobilize in favor of urban decorum and monumental assets”
“After the last two serious episodes of vandalism recorded in Mergellina, where unknown people threw weed killer on the flowerbeds, burning them completely, and in via Acton where the wall of the stairs leading to Piazza del Plebiscito and Santa Lucia was defaced shortly after its redevelopment, I spoke to the mayor Gaetano Manfredi to discuss a campaign against vandalism and wild graffiti.
It is unacceptable that hooligans and vandals can give free rein to their bestiality with impunity, regardless of the efforts and public money used to restore decorum and dignity to the streets and squares of Naples.
Together with all the citizens who love the city, the associations, and all the institutions, we want to launch a great cultural counteroffensive that puts beauty, art, and culture first and makes them prevail, raising awareness among the younger generations to defend the extraordinary heritage of the city from ignorance, hooliganism, and violence that are its immediate consequence. Unfortunately, in defense of urban decorum and common and monumental goods, it is rare for civil society to mobilize”.
These are the words of the deputy of the Green Left Alliance Francesco Emilio Borrelli, after a meeting on August 15th with the Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi.
