The next few days will be difficult, very hot, muggy. The African anticyclone Nerone does not want to abandon Italy and so it is preparing the last blaze of summer 2023.
In fact, until Saturday 26 August, it will set most of our regions on fire with about 38°C for at least 5 consecutive days. It would be a record duration. The African heat of the Nerone anticyclone will intensify in the next few days and in addition to it, the humidity rate will also increase, making the nights tropical, that is, with values always above 22-23°C.
The heat will increase. The very hot air coming from the Sahara desert is invading a large part of the Old Continent, causing temperatures to soar above the average for the period by even 10-12°C, as in France and Germany.
In Italy, the central-northern regions will have to deal with the African heat. Until Saturday 26, therefore, the daytime maximum values will easily reach 37-39°C in Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont with the main cities that will become scorching and unbreathable such as Milan, Rome, Florence, Bologna, Padua, Pavia, Alessandria, Turin, Mantua, Bolzano, Terni.
Only in the South will the heat be less intense and 36-37°C will be reached only in the Taranto, Caserta, Syracuse, Agrigento areas and on the Ionian coasts of Basilicata, elsewhere temperatures will not go above 32-34°C.
No heavy rainfall is expected, except for some occasional rainfall on inland Sicily, Cilento and Pollino and from Thursday also on the Alpine borders. Is there a date for the end of this authentic heat storm?
Cold cyclone expected from UK from 27th August
This will be the last African flare-up of the season, in fact it seems that from Sunday 27th a cyclone from the United Kingdom will rapidly descend in latitude until reaching the Mediterranean Sea and then Italy.
The clash of fresh Atlantic air and the pre-existing very warm air will give rise to very strong thunderstorms with intense hail and strong gusts of wind. In addition to the thunderstorms, a significant temperature drop of 10-12°C is expected compared to these days. This radical change of scenario will extend in the following days also to the Center.
