Palazzo Reale, 800 XNUMXth-century furnishings on display in the Foriera warehouse with two guided tours.
Saturday, September 23, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days. Director Epifani: we will open once a month.
Naples, 21 September 2023 – On Saturday, the Royal Palace of Naples will open the Furniture Deposit to the public for the first time in the space called Foriera, on the occasion of the GEP (European Heritage Days).
The Foriera Deposit, located beneath the Cortile del Belvedere, occupies the spaces formerly used for Navy service and connected at the time to the military dock below. Later they were used as a “warehouse” and as a place to store paintings.
The space currently houses 19th-century furnishings, mostly from the rooms that today house the “Vittorio Emanuele III” National Library.
The warehouse houses 450 chairs, over 200 armchairs, stools, sofas and benches, 44 consoles and desks, 30 tables and coffee tables, 25 chests of drawers, more than 20 wardrobes, 15 bedside tables, 14 mirrors, 5 dressing tables, 1 bed and even an organ for a total of over 800 pieces.
After a recent reorganization and conservation work on the spaces, another area of the Royal Palace of Naples will be accessible to the public.
“We will open the Foriera at least once a month,” said director Mario Epifani. “We will organize guided tours during which the various uses of the spaces over the years will be explained and the functionality of the furnishings will be illustrated.”
Two guided tours are scheduled for Saturday 23 September at 9.30 am and 11.30 am for which it is necessary to book (at the link: https://www.coopculture.it/it/prodotti/il-deposito-foriera/) and purchase the entrance ticket to the museum.
During the journey, visitors in groups of up to 25 people will be accompanied by an architect and an art historian on a route usually not accessible to the public.
Through an evocative elliptical piperno staircase it will also be possible to retrace part of the descent that led from the Cortile del Belvedere to the current Via Acton, on the site of the ancient Arsenal.
