“We will move forward with extreme determination to create a large audiovisual hub in Campania”. The President of the Region said it, Vincenzo De Luca, explaining that at this stage we are working mainly on “training and infrastructure” and that, among the latter, there is also the “largest underwater filming pool in Europe” which will be realized in Salerno.
“In Naples, the training schools for arts and crafts are about to start; yesterday the awards for the master's degree in Scenography and Costume for Cinema were presented; we are finishing the works at the former NATO base in Bagnoli, which will be a place where young people will study the professions of cinema and television; we will create large studios and an enormous pool for underwater filming”, said De Luca taking stock of the activity of the Campania Film Commission, explaining that “soon we will be able to advance the most complete offer in Italy for cinema and television from all points of view”.
“We continue to invest significant sums – added the governor – to offer producers complete infrastructures, from large sound stages to everything needed for those who have to shoot films. We already have an agreement with the Asi (Industrial Development Area) area of Salerno to build a large swimming pool for underwater productions, which we don't have in Italy. I know that today you have to go to Malta or Brussels for this type of shooting. We will build one of enormous dimensions, the largest in Europe, with the Asi consortium: we have a purifier near the swimming pool that allows us to save on water replacement”.
De Luca then added that he had “I heard about the rising prices for sets in Naples and throughout Campania”, a practice that it intends to stop, possibly also with the creation of regional registers: "We can't do the same as with econogastronomy, because if we follow the same path the cinema sector will fail and go elsewhere to shoot. We can propose an extraordinary offer, almost unique, but we have to be serious people".
De Luca also spoke about the renovation of the Rai Theatres in Naples: "We were doing it, but then the lanzichenecchi arrived from Rome and everything was suspended. Let's see what to do, I am for keeping the investments going, let's wait for Rome to decide to unblock the Cohesion and Development Funds".
