Francesco Emilio Borrelli witnessed a night of chaos in the historic center of Napoli, precisely in the vicinity of Piazza Bellini e Piazza Dante.
During the evening, illegal parking attendants took control of the streets, extorting money from motorists without being disturbed. The decisive intervention of the deputy occurred with a night blitz on December 7, when Borrelli carried out an inspection of the area.
During the inspection, the deputy encountered a traffic jam on Via Bellini, caused by a car speeding down the road in the wrong direction. Although he was clearly in the wrong, the driver insisted on continuing. Borrelli, documenting the incident with his cell phone, provoked the driver to reverse, while receiving insults for having disturbed the illegal action.
Concerned citizens reported to the deputy another violation in via Broggia, where an ANM bus was blocked by an illegal parking. Borrelli expressed deep concern about the chaos prevailing in the historic center of Naples, underlining the need for decisive intervention to counter the rampant anarchy.
He proposed the establishment of constant police presences to restore order, citing the positive example of the presence activated in Piazza Dante which contributed to stopping the raids of young criminals riding scooters.
Borrelli concluded by declaring that the situation has become unsustainable and requires a timely remedy. His testimony was made public after the night inspection on December 7, 2023.
