Thursday 21 December at 10,30:XNUMX in the cathedral church of Naples the “Living Nativity Scene in historical clothes” organized by the State Institute of Higher Education “Isabella d'Este – Caracciolo” of Naples.
Strongly desired by the school principal, Dr. Giovanna Scala, the event is part of the program of events developed by the Archdiocese of Naples entitled “Light of Naples” and will have among its guests a group of about 100 homeless people assisted by the city soup kitchens coordinated by the diocesan Caritas.
The costumes of the Living Nativity Scene, kept in the Fashion Design Museum, set up inside the institute, were conceived, designed and created by the students, under the guidance of the teachers, in the school's laboratories. Worn by the students and some parents, there are about 100 and they represent the traditional figures of the nativity scene in an excursus that goes from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century. Among them, the core of the Nativity stands out, inspired by the works of Gentile da Fabriano, and the clothes that depict Ferdinand of Aragon, king of Naples, and his wife.
The procession of figures enters, who are the shepherds of the nativity scene, welcomed in the cathedral by the notes of the song "Gli Angeli delle Campagne" performed by the soprano Francesco Divito. The reading of a passage from the Gospel of Matthew will announce the birth of the Savior and, to the singing of "Adeste fideles" Mary, Joseph and the Child will arrive at the altar, who will compose the scene of the Nativity.
Veronica Mazza, a theatre actress and one of the protagonists of the Daily Drama RAI Un Posto al Sole, who recently inaugurated the TEDER, a small theatre in the restored church of Santa Maria del Rimedio al Molo Grande, in the Municipio area, will participate in the Living Nativity Scene.
Some reflections on Christmas taken from the writings of Curzio Malaparte, Don Tonino Bello and Mother Teresa of Calcutta will also be proposed.
And among traditional Neapolitan Christmas music and the subsequent arrival of the Three Wise Men, preceded by the comet star, to the song of “Quanno nascette Ninno”, a group of students from the hotel management program at the Via Fontanelle branch will offer the homeless a sweet gift – mini roccocò – made in the school kitchens.
The school principal Dr. Giovanna Scala and the parish priest of the cathedral Don Vittorio Sommella will speak with a greeting to those present. The metropolitan archbishop of Naples Monsignor Domenico Battaglia will conclude the moment of celebration with a greeting of good wishes to those present.
ISIS “Isabella d'Este – Caracciolo” is not new to this Christmas initiative that it has been carrying out for many years, with the aim of raising awareness among students of solidarity and the needs of the less fortunate, respecting the cultural, ethnic and religious diversity of each. Christmas is a Christian holiday but it becomes a moment of unity and sharing for everyone, beyond personal religious beliefs.
The staff of “D'Este – Caracciolo” is convinced that the education of young people also takes place outside the school walls, and often “alternative” places – cinemas, museums, squares, churches, canteens – become the classrooms where students learn to be better men and women.
