A climate of tension and fear can be felt in Caivano, particularly in the Parco Verde neighborhood, following the announcement of evictions in the infamous 167, considered the largest drug dealing area in Europe.

Don Maurizio Patriciello, an anti-Camorra parish priest and a point of reference for the community, denounced during a homily on the Sunday following the announcement of the evictions: “Look at these pews: the church is emptying. Who are the people who would like to occupy it? Why don't your children come to the oratory anymore?”
Don Patriciello then reported that he had noticed two suspicious cars parked near the church and that he had received threats. “Who are these Camorristi?”, he asked. “Who and why do they want to scare? Certainly not me.”
The prefect's visit tomorrow
Tomorrow the prefect of Naples Michele Di Bari will visit Caivano to meet with representatives of families who fear evictions. A difficult meeting, which promises to be an attempt to mediate between the reasons of the State and those of the locals.
Many families living in 167, even if not linked to the Camorra – as reported by Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno – fear having to leave their homes. Prefect Di Bari has assured that the cases will be examined one by one, but tension remains high.
The situation in Caivano is uncertain and worrying. The hope is that a solution will be found that protects legality and at the same time takes into account the needs of families that have nothing to do with organized crime.
