A 57 year old man from the province of Napoli he was arrested for the crime of aggravated extortion against an 89-year-old woman in Rome.
The arrest occurred after the man contacted the woman, making her believe he was a postal worker and inducing her to give him 200 euros and several gold jewels.
The Carabinieri intervened promptly, blocking the man and recovering the stolen goods to return them to the victim.
The suspect was accompanied to the courtrooms in Piazzale Clodio, where the Court ordered him to remain in his municipality of residence.
It should be noted that the proceedings are still in the preliminary investigation phase and that the suspect is to be considered innocent until a final sentence is issued.
The Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Rome made the incident known in an official statement.
