The Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, carried out an inspection this afternoon at the Archaeological Park of Phlegraean Fields, led by director Fabio Pagano, to which several institutes and places of culture in the area affected by intense seismic activity belong, including the Amphitheatres of Cuma, Liternum and Puteoli.
In the latter, in particular, the Minister stopped to note the situation. The minister - we read in a note - was promptly informed by the management and technicians of the Park on the state of the art of the monuments and the Castle of Baia which houses the Archaeological Museum of the Phlegraean Fields and on the safety of the finds preserved there, noting that at the moment there is no evident damage to the cultural heritage.
"I found the Pozzuoli Amphitheater to be in good health - said Minister Giuli - and above all very well controlled. This is the most reassuring fact. There is not a single moment in which our widespread archaeological heritage is not controlled with high-definition scientific systems and with top-level personnel.
The government's main commitment is to ensure a very careful presence, with all its resources, not only economic but also personnel, in the continuous monitoring and support of the extraordinary staff of this park and all those who protect the heritage on behalf of the Ministry.
There is a plan for the opening of the sites that I hope will be respected and that the seismic swarm will not interfere with a very important program of enhancement and reopening to the citizens. I draw elements of optimism from this visit and I am happy to have seen up close the quality and quantity of the work that is being carried out on this site and the enormous prospects that it can guarantee for the entire community of Campi Flegrei”.
For Giuli, “in this sense, communication is fundamental, making people understand that the Italian cultural system is under control and protected and that we are not faced with insurmountable critical situations.
It is right to be aware of the risk you run. After that, it is also important to have a dialogue with the structures that deal with tourism, ensuring the staff for the opening of the sites that can and must be visited in safe conditions.
At the same time, we must continue to work on Recovery Art, which, in the face of a system of possible calamities, provides us with ever greater security systems. We are doing further mapping, posing the problem of guaranteeing security that is proof against any form of calamity or ponderable event”.
