The Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, visited this morning the Taverna del Ferro construction site, in San Giovanni a Teduccio, where urban regeneration works in the area are underway.
Manfredi expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work: “We are respecting the schedule – he said – and we are confident that, barring unforeseen events, everything will be completed by the end of 2026”.
The first phase of the project, which will last approximately 60 days, involves the demolition of 84 garages, two pedestrian walkways, soccer fields and five-a-side soccer fields, and the removal of pavements, street furniture and street lighting poles. Subsequently, all the works will be removed up to the street level to then proceed with the construction of the new 180 homes.
The Mayor underlined the importance of an urban regeneration intervention in a densely populated area: “Demolitions must be done in a very controlled manner – he said – to protect the safety of citizens”.
The work schedule was also calibrated based on the different deadlines of the financing funds, partly deriving from the Pnrr and partly from the Pon Metro. “We synchronized the various phases of the works – explained Manfredi – so as to respect the deadlines of both funds”.
The first part of the project, which involves the construction of 180 homes, will be completed by early 2025. Subsequently, the families of the first “stecca” will be relocated, which will then be demolished to make way for the completion of the neighborhood.
The last planned activity is the demolition of the second “block”, which will house appurtenant areas, gardens and urban allotments.
The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Urban Policies, Laura Lieto, underlined the importance of this project for the redevelopment of San Giovanni a Teduccio: “Taverna del Ferro is an example of how urban regeneration can improve the quality of life of citizens – she said – Not only will new housing be built, but green spaces and socialization areas will also be created”.
Mayor Manfredi's visit to the Taverna del Ferro construction site is a tangible sign of the attention of the municipal administration towards the outskirts of the city. The urban regeneration project of this area represents an important step forward for improving the livability of San Giovanni a Teduccio and for the well-being of its citizens.
