In Campania there are currently a total of 3.106 real estate properties confiscated to organised crime which were destined for reuse.
A census conducted by Libera revealed that 170 different entities are involved in the management of these confiscated assets from 56 municipalities in the region. Half of these entities are associations of various kinds, while there are also social cooperatives, religious bodies, foundations and schools that manage these assets for public and social purposes.
Interestingly, the census does not include real estate assets intended directly for the management of state and local governments. Libera has also explored the types of properties managed by the various parties involved, ranging from apartments to agricultural land, from villas to multi-storey buildings.
Furthermore, several activities carried out by the managing entities have been identified, including those related to welfare services, cultural promotion, sustainable tourism, agriculture and the environment, as well as employment and production.
According to data from the National Agency for the Administration and Destination of Assets Seized and Confiscated from Organized Crime, updated to February 22, 2024, in Campania there are also 3.416 properties still awaiting destination and 669 confiscated companies in the management phase.
These numbers demonstrate the commitment and importance of the initiative in reusing confiscated assets for social and public purposes, thus contributing to countering the action of organized crime in the area.
