On Friday 24 May the spotlights of the Auditorium Novecento in Naples (via Enrico de Marinis, 4 – start 21pm) will be turned on for the concert of Maria Mazzotta, one of the most appreciated interpreters of Italian world music.
Union of Tradition and Modernity
Maria Mazzotta's visceral interpretation meets the electric sounds of post-rock, creating an original and profound union. In her new album "Onde", Maria Mazzotta chooses to express the vital and sincere force of the peasant tradition through contemporary instruments with a suburban flavor.
An Interplanetary Album
Produced by the Zero Nove Nove record label, “Onde” is the new, highly anticipated album by Maria Mazzotta, made with Cristiano Della Monica on percussion and electronics, and Ernesto Nobili on electric and baritone guitar. The trio arrives at the Arci Bellezza in Milan for a stop on the international tour that began last February in Sweden and has already stopped in prestigious venues and important festivals in Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Estonia and Switzerland. After Naples, the trio will continue performing on May 25 at the Cantieri Teatrali Koreja in Lecce, and on May 28 at the Giardino Verano in Rome.
A Journey of Over 200 Concerts
Since 2020, the year that marked her solo debut with the release of the album “Amoreamaro”, Maria Mazzotta has never stopped, performing in over 200 concerts in more than 25 countries across Europe, Latin America and Asia. From this traveling comes the awareness of being able to push herself towards the true expression of her own experience of popular music, with courage and freedom, always bringing herself on stage, accompanied by her fragilities and her own strength.
The Meaning of “Waves”
“Onde” is the result of encounters, influences, emotions and reflections on modern society. “La fortuna” opens the album with an arrangement steeped in psychedelic rock, telling the story of the encounter with “la fortuna”, a shining and desperate figure in the open sea. The song shouts a message of humanity, welcome and sharing, contrasting with the macabre news.
International Collaborations
The album features Bombino, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Niger, especially in the track “Sula nu puei stare”. Tracing a route between Salento and North Africa, the result is a propitiatory rite that invites solidarity and dialogue without prejudice.
The Sea and the Waves
“Onde” explores the continuous change, with the sea that resonates everywhere, from the sweet cradle to the destructive rogue wave. The electromagnetic waves represent the electricity of the trio, propagating sound and emotional energy, reflecting what happens live between Maria and the audience. The new sound, rich in Ernesto Nobili's electric guitar and Cristiano Della Monica's custom percussion, preserves the deep roots of the Southern Italian tradition.
Maria Mazzotta, with her deep and penetrating interpretation, offers the audience a rare and precious experience, making her an intense voice in the panorama of European world music. “Onde” is a show to be fully experienced, accompanied by a unique interpreter.
