LAV welcomes the conviction for the death of Found Goal Pag, but reiterates its commitment to a world without animal exploitation
“We are pleased with the conviction, but we cannot forget the pain and suffering of Found Goal Pag. His death is a tragic testimony to the cruelty inflicted on non-human animals in the name of profit and indifference.”
This is how Nadia Zurlo, head of the LAV Equine Area, comments on today's ruling by the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere (EC) which sentenced the former coachwoman who worked for the horse-drawn carriage service of the Royal Palace of Caserta to one year in prison for killing animals, tried for having caused the death of Found Goal Pag on 12 August 2020.
LAV emphasizes the seriousness of the crime and the need for greater protection of animals. The judge, the note explains, "recognized the criminal responsibility of the woman, guilty of having denied the horse rest and essential care during its 'work' under the relentless sun of that summer day.
The lack of water and excessive effort caused the horse to suffer a profound state of dehydration, culminating in fatal heat stroke and cardiocirculatory arrest that caused its death. For this reason, the defendant was sentenced to one year in prison.”
LAV reaffirms its commitment to the fight against animal exploitation and for a world in which every creature can live free from suffering and violence. “We will continue to fight so that no other animal has to suffer a fate similar to that of Found Goal Pag,” concludes Zurlo. “His death will not be in vain and will push us to do even more to defend animal rights and to guarantee them a dignified life.”
LAV invites all those who share its values to join its fight for a more just and compassionate world for all living beings.
