Technical surveys are underway to determine the necessary safety measures for the Amalfi Coast State Road 163, in the section near the municipality of Piano di Sorrento, where a landslide occurred yesterday. The block of stone that broke away from the ridge above the state road was held in place by protective netting, preventing it from falling onto the roadway. However, further inspections revealed the presence of other unstable stone materials.
"This phase will allow us to clarify the technical methods of intervention and, in collaboration with the regional Civil Engineering Department, we will receive estimates on the timing," explained in a joint note the mayors of Piano di Sorrento, Salvatore Cappiello, and Positano, Giuseppe Guida.
The work will be carried out as a matter of urgency. Contrary to initial impressions, the work could prove to be significant, which, if confirmed by the surveys, will inevitably impact the road's reopening time. We are committed, each within our respective roles and responsibilities, to securing the area and reopening the road to traffic as soon as possible.
