Castellammare di Stabia. Movie scenes last night in Castellammare di Stabia where a thief on the run clung to the ledge of a third floor, pretending to want to commit suicide to escape the Carabinieri.
The man, a 36-year-old already known to the police, had entered the apartment of a 70-year-old pensioner to steal. Surprised by the neighbors, he tried to escape through the window, but the height stopped him.
The Carabinieri, alerted by the screams of passers-by, intervened on the spot and found the man clinging to the ledge. Initially, thinking it was an attempted suicide, they alerted the firefighters.
Only after reconstructing the incident did the military discover the 36-year-old's true intention: to avoid arrest.
The thief, identified as Armando Cimmino from Casola di Napoli, was rescued by firefighters and arrested by the Carabinieri. He will have to answer for attempted theft.
The episode caused great concern among the residents of the area, who witnessed the hectic phases of the rescue operation and filmed the scene on their cell phones.
