Article Key Points
Emma B – Widow Jocasta
At the base of this splendid 1949 play, written by Alberto Savinio, brother of the famous painter Giorgio de Chirico, we find a mother waiting for her son who is about to return home after a long absence of fifteen years. During the performance, the protagonist illustrates his morbid attachment to his son and reveals his dead and abusive husband. We witness the total reversal of the myth of Oedipus and Jocasta, which becomes an element of our daily life.
Blue Concert – Tribute to Domenico Modugno
On Sunday 21 July at the Sannitica Archaeological Area of Fratte, at 21:00 pm, it will be the turn of a great Neapolitan interpreter, Lalla Esposito, who, accompanied on the piano by maestro Antonio Ottaviano, will pay homage to one of the greatest interpreters of Italian song, Domenico Modugno, with “Concerto Blu – Omaggio a Domenico Modugno”. The performance will be a journey through Modugno's music, interpreted with the versatility and powerful voice of Lalla Esposito.
The journey proposed by Lalla Esposito will be suspended between poetics and innovation, characteristics that have distinguished Modugno's music. A complete, explosive and positive artist, who has left an indelible mark on Italian music and also abroad. However, behind Modugno's exuberance there was a melancholic nuance that characterized much of his artistic production.
Circe, The Woman and the Myth
On Monday 22nd July, again at the Archaeological Area of Fratte, at 21:00 pm, these three intense days of theatre and music will be concluded by three lionesses of the Italian stage: Elena Croce, Antonella Valitutti and Margherita Rago. They will be the protagonists of “Circe, the Woman and the Myth”, rewritten and adapted by Antonello De Rosa.
The plot tells of Circe, mother of the femme fatale and archetype of the Dark lady, the sorceress who attracts and manipulates Ulysses' men, turning them into beasts. Odysseus, a cunning and fearless hero, manages to render her harmless, tame her and make her restore dignity to her traveling companions. Circe's story has often been told from the male point of view, but more recent works by Margaret Atwood and Madeline Miller finally give Circe a voice, exploring her perspective and her destiny as a woman aware of her love for Odysseus, but also strong and complex.
