Napoli. During the night a group of displaced people from Sky blue sail, about thirty and mostly women, managed to re-enter the building which had been closed since last July 22nd, the day a balcony collapsed causing three victims and several injuries, some of whom are still in hospital.
After a few hours, the evacuees left but a garrison remained in front of the Vela. The police intervened on the spot.
“There was this attempt to enter, people then left early this morning – reported the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi – there is also a moment of a bit of apprehension, the need to find independent accommodation, but we will still support this community.
We have done it and are doing it to ensure that in this phase, in which it will not be possible to return to the Vela Celeste because the safety conditions are not there, everyone can have decent accommodation while waiting for the construction of the apartments planned in the Re Start Scampia project”.
The mayor reported that 219 families have applied to access the financial contribution, made available by the municipal administration with an allocation of one million euros, to find independent accommodation; 11, however, do not appear in the census that the Municipality carried out in 2023.
The contribution as well as the new housing are intended for those who were registered last year. "Our project is aimed at those who were actually in the Vele - Manfredi emphasized - we have a census that has been validated by all the authorities and institutions. We extend a hand to everyone, but the resettlement plan at this time is aimed only at those who are actually in the Vele".
