The heat wave that has hit Italy has continued unabated for a month now, with temperatures constantly 2-4 degrees above the seasonal average. According to the forecasts of the Centro Meteo Italiano, the situation is destined to worsen with the arrival of the weekend, when a further strengthening of high pressure and a further increase in temperatures are expected.
An anticyclonic promontory is in fact advancing between the Mediterranean and Europe, while further north a large depression is moving between Iceland and the British Isles. This scenario will lead to mostly dry weather conditions over much of Italy. However, isolated thunderstorms are not excluded in the afternoon, especially over the Alps and the Apennines.
The latest weather updates indicate that there will be no significant changes in the short term. This heat wave will most likely continue to characterize the Italian climate at least until mid-August, influencing the habits and daily activities of Italians.
With temperatures continuing to rise, authorities recommend taking the usual precautions to avoid heatstroke and dehydration. Limit outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day, stay well hydrated, and pay special attention to vulnerable people, such as the elderly and children.
