Health revolution in prisons bells: the detainees Cancer patients now have access to the same care as other patients.
An important piece of news comes from the ASL of Caserta which, on the instructions of President De Luca, has extended the Campania Oncology Network (ROC) to the province's penitentiary institutions.
Thanks to this initiative, prisoners diagnosed with cancer will be able to count on a personalized and multidisciplinary treatment path, just like free citizens. "It is a victory for the dignity and rights of these people", the associations commented.
Ultimately, the aim is to ensure that all incarcerated cancer patients receive adequate, competent and fast assistance while remaining in prison facilities. This is in compliance with the principles according to which all cancer patients can benefit from aoncological care quality.
In fact, with the establishment of the GOM (Multiprofessional Oncology Groups), all citizens affected by tumor pathologies, free or imprisoned, must be taken care of by the ROC and, for each of them, a group of Multidisciplinary Specialists must determine the best diagnostic and therapeutic strategy.
Furthermore, this organization avoids burdensome transfers for inmate patients and works to ensure that they can receive better oncological care, even within penitentiary institutions.
