A Napoli the testing of new “smart” bins and waste bins for waste collection has begun.
The initiative kicked off today with the installation of smart bins in Piazza Santa Maria degli Angeli, intended for separate waste collection, and the first technological bins along Via Toledo and Piazza Trieste e Trento.
The bins, equipped with electronic access readers, will be usable via special cards distributed to both domestic and non-domestic users by operators of Asia, the municipal company responsible for waste management in Naples.
The experiment will initially involve the areas of Via Gennaro Serra, Vico Santo Spirito, Piazza Carolina and Piazza Santa Maria degli Angeli.
These smart bins will open only with the cards provided to residents of the area, thus ensuring control over the correct disposal of waste, monitoring of the flow and optimization of collection. The new installations of Asia Napoli also boast an innovative design, conceived to harmonize with the most iconic places of the city.
The smart bins, which will be located in Piazza Trieste e Trento (near number 46) and in Via Toledo (near number 300), are equipped with an advanced compaction system that reduces the volume of waste.
When the maximum capacity is reached, the system automatically sends a notification via email or SMS to a centralized system, signaling the need for emptying.
This technological system not only optimizes time, but also makes waste management more efficient, reducing the space occupied and the frequency of emptying operations. Powered by solar energy, the bins are equipped with a standard 120-liter wheeled bin, designed to minimize physical effort during emptying operations.
“We are starting to experiment with fundamental tools to improve the decorum and waste management in our city,” said Domenico Ruggiero, sole director of Asia Napoli.
“Already last Sunday, during the event in Piazza Municipio for the 25th anniversary of Asia Napoli, attended by many citizens, we anticipated the arrival of important innovations to improve collection services, including a new website, the updating of communication services with citizens and the progressive installation of technological infrastructures for waste disposal and monitoring collection in the city”.
